- The fastest that I have found (according to its own rate reports, not
- because I actually timed the little sucker) is Smodem. It performs
- extremely well and outperforms HS/Link in reliability and error handling.
- I was an early supporter of HS/Link (I own serial #'s 10 and 16) and was
- quite surprised at the performance of Smodem in comparison.
-
- I do think that Smodem fudges a bit on its cps rate reporting and
- exaggerates the actual rate by 10% or so. However, the ability to
- reliably handle various line conditions and enviroments flawlessly
- overcomes that little fault. I have used it on telnet connections (to
- Salt Air BBS, PCBoard's Clark Development Corp's BBS) when Zmodem would
- not work (due to my ISP's poor implementation of telnet) and on regular
- dialups both LD and local.
-
- I highly recommend it where available.
-
- The only copy I have seen around is SMODEM10.ZIP.
